Advertising link building scams

With so many scams out on the Internet, this is just another one to add to the list to watch out for.

If you own a website or blog, you may have someone e-mail you with a proposal of advertising on your website using text link ads. At first it may sound good, but before you say yes to their proposal fully understand what they want AND what they are doing.

Here is what can happen:

Person sends you an e-mail that they have a business opportunity for you to make money with your website.

They will create ad content (50 - 150 words) around your existing content on a page (or pages) with 5 - 7 outbound links to other websites and pay you for the space and possibly show you examples of placements they have already done.

They may even explain you can reword (within limits) the information they have sent and have the placement of the ads anywhere on the page that you choose.

The price they pay you may vary on what type of website you have, your pagerank, how long your site has been online etc...

For beginners online, it may sound like a good deal, but look at the price they will pay you. Will they pay you a one time fee? Monthly fee? Yearly fee? Most of the time these people will only pay you a one time fee and sure it may sound good at that time it is not worth it as you can find other text link ads that can pay you over and over again.

Also you need to look at how long they plan on using the space? For the life of the page? A year?

If they are requesting to place ads on 10 of your pages and stay there for the life of the page and you only receive $200. or so dollars. DON'T DO IT! You can find more effective ways to use your space then to help someone else in their link building strategy.

Also if your site is an affiliate site or product selling, then you could end up losing a lot of potential customers because of these ads.

Link Building Strategy

These people are using your website to build links and at a very cheap price. No, there is nothing wrong with paying or receiving money for link building but you must be careful on how you accept the links and how you request the links.
